Andrew Best & Anne Mcauley marriage Dungannon 1874
« on: Sunday 17 September 23 16:58 BST (UK) »
Hi all, very out of practice at using this forum, i'll probably never find it or the replies again - but here goes nothing.. I'm building a tree for a friend and have jumped from deaths in Scotland to a marriage in Ireland. Andrew Best and Anne Mcauley were married in Dungannon in 1874. I have found the Dungannon Catholic Church registers online, but no sign of that marriage, which obv suggests a different denomination - of which I can find no trace online. I have also search numerous databases for their names in Dungannon, but again with no success. On their deaths in Scotland it gives their mothers maiden names, which were Patton and Mullen respectively. Searching for either of those surnames in Dungannon also gives me nothing I can follow up.
I've looked in all the usual places but wondered if there was anyone local to that area with more knowledge or anyone who can point me in the right direction to find their families.
Thanks in anticipation  :)
Rob

Looks good, heywood  ;D

At Stangmore, which was Anne's townland on the marriage record.

Hopefully it is right. If so, here is Ellenor, the daughter, who reported Samuel’s death.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I've got very little knowledge of anything to do with Irish records or what is a available or where really. The marriage record on Ancestry is where the Dungannon link came from, the census returns from Scotland just said Ireland. So "Kiltaglassan"where have you found the home town Stangmore from?
Also, "heywood" thanks for the Samuel possibility, the dates/ages would work and that would make Ellenor, Ann(e)s sister, which is another link to reseach.  :)

Andrew Best’s townland when he married in 1874 was Lurganbuoy (sometimes Lurganboy and sometimes Lurgaboy) in the parish of Drumglass. Griffiths Valuation lists a William Best farming in Lurgaboy. He had plot 4 which was a 16 acre farm. And he is listed in the tithe applotment records for 1832:

http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/tyrone/tithe-applotment-books/parish-of-drumglass.php

This William Best farming there in 1901. A brother to Andrew perhaps?

1911:

The Valuation revision records (PRONI website) show William Best’s farm changing to Mary Best in 1878, suggesting William had died, and she had replaced him. Then in 1885 it changes again to William Best, her son. Here’s her death certificate for 1883.

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1883/06356/4823628.pdf

She was born c 1823, so possibly married around 1843 give or take a year or two. (Statutory marriage registration started in April 1845. She’s not in those records so she must have married before that).

The Best family were Church of Ireland (ie Episcopalian) and lived in Drumglass parish. So if you are looking for Andrew's siblings, it might be worth checking baptisms in those records. Records start in 1667 (with some gaps). Copy held in PRONI in Belfast. That parishes records don't appear to be on-line anywhere, so far as I can tell.
