No birth record in 1887 but there is one in 1898 which corresponds with an enlistment in ?? June 1918.  He gave his father Thomas as his NoK

Reg number 66866 - no entry on the WW1 MRI.  Possibly served in the 1/6 Manchesters but difficult to read.

The record is on Ancestry & not easy to read.  Difficult to say but I don't think he saw active WW1 service.  If you don't have an Ancestry sub - most local libraries have free access

Many thanks for info. Did notice it on Ancestry but no access,  but just seen it on family search whilst checking the 1911 for him...he was in the King's own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Kind regards

He went overseas 21/11/18 with the 12th. Mancs. & attached to the 25 & then 34 POW Coy.
These were captured Germans who were used as a labour force.
He was then posted to the 6th. Mancs. by May 1919 & attached to 329 Labour Coy.
doing the same thing.

12/Mancs. were never used on salvage ops. & on 31/3/19 3 Officers
& 80 OR's were attached to the POW Coys. He would have been one
of these.
The 12th. were in the process of demobilising & this is the reason he
was transferred to the 6th. who were involved in salvage work.
