Nottingham Archives
« on: Tuesday 19 September 23 16:34 BST (UK) »
Hello
Is there anybody near Nottingham Archives who could do a look up please?
I have been told they have two volumes of monumental inscriptions on open access for St Mary Magdalene Newark.
Thank you

It may be an idea if you post here who you are looking for in case anyone visits on impulse.

Have you seen this listing

I am looking for Thomas Collin who died in 1843 and James Collin who died 1832, they were business people so may have had a gravestone.  Thank you

If you put the dates in with no names, it does bring up some stones and their locations. But no Collin.

The link I posted does not name them either and suggests that a large number of grave stones are unreadable

The archives have quoted £22 to search both volumes. Don't think so.

£22 doesn't sound a bad price to me. Assuming that V.A.T. is payable, the gross charge seems to be around £18.40, to fund, for example, one hour's work at an hourly rate of £18.40, or half an hour at £36.80.  During that time, the two books have to be searched and a report produced and sent to you, and perhaps there is a little additional admin.

You could try a professional searcher, which might result in a lower charge for the search, and perhaps no V.A.T., but you may then have to pay some travelling expenses.

It was for 30 minutes work, one volume is indexed but the other isn't.
