In 1851 there  is an unmarried Daniel Bowen b 1810 Llanelly  but can’t see one b Llannon

In 1861 there is one b 1793 Llannon married to Jane - in 1851 he is living in Llannon but showing a different birthplace

Where did you get the birthyear & birthplace of 1809 from

Thanks.

I got the possible baptism from FindMyPast but I am wondering if there is a transcription error in FindMyPast. I can’t find this baptism in Ancestry Llannon records, though it looks as though the bottom of the first page of 1809 Llannon records may have been cut off, but they do have the father Rees and Mother Jane baptism registered 13 Dec 1803, which also lists him as illegitimate. In 1841 he is at Clos isaf Llanarthney with wife Hannah and Children, born around 1811. There is a gravestone for him at Capel Seion, Drefach with a death date of 12 Nov !847 Clos Isaf and age 45, which would make the 1803 baptism seem correct. However, the probable death entries are

BOWEN, DANIEL  age 39  GRO Reference: 1847  D Quarter in CARMARTHEN  Volume 26  Page 411 and
BOWEN, DANIEL  age 40  GRO Reference: 1847  D Quarter in CARMARTHEN  Volume 26  Page 409

Which would agree better with a baptism around 1809!

yes, agree with you. The missing bit of page has led to the date being indexed as 1809 when it should be 1803.

An amazing find and amazing story but not 100% sure if this is the same Daniel, or the other one who died in the same quarter. The newspaper article refers to 25th Ult which would mean 25th Nov. Then refers to the Monday night previous which would mean the 22nd or the 15th. From his gravestone Daniel died on the 12th Nov. Therefore, not an exact agreement, however, the date on the gravestone could be inaccurate and the newspaper article obviously wasn’t exactly sure of the date or they would not have gone done such a convoluted way to describe it.

the death cert should say whether there was an inquest or not. Why would you get a prescription from a farrier?

Need to get around to ordering the certificate. Not so bad as on the GRO you can now get a digital image for £2.50.

My 2x great grandfather was a Sawyer/Carpenter but in some of his children’s marriage certificates he put his profession as Chemist. This threw me for a while, how could he both? However, after getting in contact with descendants of his it turns out that he was a part-time chemist and had a small apothecary attached to his house which villagers would come to for various lotions and potions. How he got his training (maybe self taught) is still unclear but there is at least 1 article which says he had some training by a local GP. So, although at first sight you may not associate a Farrier with dispensing medicines, he could have had some training and/or various unguents/potions as part of his dealing with horses and he could have been the local person to go to for such things.
