Oh looking back on my first post I have made a big mistake so sorry all
Jessies father is John like Neale1961 says not Robert
So in 1851 census Jessie is not at home so could be working somewhere else
On her marriage to Hugh she is  A house Maid could she be working for Hugh
Its late I must get to bed

I can't be certain, but this entry in the 1851 census seems the most likely for Jessie/ Janet McKay (she might be working for a relative)

He is last seen in the 1881 census with his wife Isabella and 2 sons living in Clyne

Yes Hugh's first wife was Ann Murray
then he marries Jessie MacKay or McKay

I'm trying to sort out a relationship with a young girl in New Zealand who thinks we are related
she has Mackenzie mine are without the A. Through the years Ive had problems with this but I do know when my families have emigrated to America ,Canada and New Zealand how their surnames change.

Whether it is spelled with or without the a is of no significance until you get to the very late 19th century. Before that - and even afterwards to a lesser extent - spelling of names was not fixed, and there was no such thing as 'correct' spelling.

It's quite common to find the same person's surname spelled in different ways in the same document.

When I went to the genealogy class about 2006 our teacher told us its the dialect we have 
I'm in Northumberland and found this with a relative
Mary Ann Hall but states Harle my father in law spoke like this
