Don't get too hung up on exact dates of marriage.

In some parishes the date is the actual marriage date, in others when the first banns of marriage was read, and for some it was when the fee for proclamation was paid.

Some baptisms will say if the child was born in wedlock e.g. 'legal son' which can be abbreviated to LS.

You may find in the Kirk Session minutes that 'Alexander Smith gave 2 shillings to the poor'  If he did, then this was the fee for his marriage banns to be proclaimed.

Lastly, you may find marriage contracts in the archives (if they are indexed)
