French War Ships 1867-1872
« on: Friday 22 September 23 02:14 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone
I am trying to find out more on the ships that my Joseph Marie Le Gallic was on from his boyhood.  It seems so far that the ships he was on were actually used to train/school boys and sailors.

Not sure if that is correct though.  Still trying to work out WHEN he left France for ?? and ended up in New Zealand in 1874.  The last ship I have him on is the LOUIS XIV from February 1872-then nothing.

Joined the corps on 4 June 1867 as a ship’s
 boy from his parents' home.
Voluntary enlistment for 7 years
at Brest City Hall on 19 February 69
as from 19 December 1868This is a list of ships he was on, or the home ports, with dates, as follows:

Inflexible from 4 June 1867 to 20 December 1868
Bretagne from 20 December 68 to 23 March 69
D. de Cherb. from 23 March to 9 April 69
Flandre from 9 April 69 to 18 March 1870
Beaumanoir from 18 March 70 to 9 September 70
Don  Cherbourg from 9 September 70 to 1er October 1870
Atalante from 1er October 1870 to 1er November 1870
Don  Cherbourg from 1er November 70 to 27 December 1870
[illegible] annex from 27 December 1870 to 10 March 1871
Don  Cherbourg from 10 March 1871 to 13 April 1871
Inflexible annex from 13 April 1871 to 11 July 1871
Claymore from 11 July 1871 to 6 August 1871
Don  Brest from 6 August 1871 to 12 December 1871
Bretagne from 12 December 1871 to 25 January 1872
Don  Toulon from 25 January 1872 to 1 February 1872
Louis XIV from 1 February 1872 to
Added at a later date:
1 Photocopy le 22/6/84 to Mrs J Platel-Binot Binic
(Binic is a seaside place, on the coast near St Jean Kerdaniel, Guingamp

Any help would be very much appreciated.  Kindest regards Dianna

D.de Cherb, Don Cherbourg , Don Brest and Don Toulon are dockyards.
Added: means Division of Cherbourg, Brest ,Toulon .

He left Toulon on the Louis XIV  on 1 february 1872 and  disappeared ( deserted) in New Zealand where the ship was making a landing . There is no date for the end of his duty on the Louis XIV because he never came back.

Yes the ships he was on were used as training ships .
