Calleva I've sent you a pm.

As AllanUK says the Gazette site is notoriously difficult to search, so you will need to practice! The problem is that some entries are listed with a first name, either before or after the surname, and others just have an initial, but the search isn't fuzzy enough to find them all first time. However having the date of the entries should help. Normally I would suggest just putting the person's surname in the text box and the approximate date of the issue in the search criteria and make sure you are searching all parts of the site. However the word 'gentleman' is used in many contexts other than as a surname, so in your case it leads to too many false positives. Therefore in this case it's quicker to just to put Military Medal in the text box and limit the search to the month when it was awarded.
However AllanUK has saved you the trouble!

He's on the FoI list of servicemen born before 1900 whose papers are still held by MoD
Shaun,

I'm not sure that's the right man as he has a different number to the one issued to Calleva's great uncle in 1917 (266954). Also, as he was TF I would have expected him to have been demobbed in 1919 or 1920, so records released to the PRO before 1941.

Calleva,

Here are the two newspaper announcements of his MM and bar, plus two other clippings which may or may not be relevant. Newspaper title and date of publication is in the image name.

It's the same birth date (17 May 1892) as in the Roll of Honour entry.

Interesting! I wonder why he had a another number which was higher (ie issued later) than his previous TF number.  Given that the new TF numbers were supposed to be unique, even if he re-enlisted c.1919 I would have expected him to continue with the 266 number. Calleva needs to think about getting his records from the MOD / TNA.

Does the FOI roll state his battalion or just his regiment, that is to say did he appear to remain in the TF?

In addition to the info I gave earlier this is where he was at the time
D28 - D30 on this map:
https://maps.nls.uk/view/101724042
Your man was in a patrol that came out of Rabbit Trench to search the
German trenches in D 30 & this is where they encountered the Germans.

He's on "Sheet 3" which doesn't list regiments
