Bridget Shanahan
« on: Saturday 23 September 23 14:03 BST (UK) »
Bridget Shanahan b 17th Jan 1876 Carrigtohill Co Cork Ireland Parents Michael Shanahan & Mary Barry.
My query is on the Ships Manifest Arriving in Boston 3rd Sept 1914 Ship Arabic Bridgets contact in US is given as C A Devereaux 8 Wellington St Arlington. Written under this is Sister Mary Mother?
I have checked censuses for CA Devereaux in Arlington & this person was born in USA so cant be a sister to Bridgets mother Mary. I am wondering if Bridget was going here as an Employee?
I have all information on Bridget from time of her arrival i.e Marriage death etc. Wondering if I have read the entry on manifest incorrectly? Thank you

‘sister, Mary, Mother’ is crossed through and is part of the entry below - which is all crossed through.

It might read ‘Home hd’ , Mrs C Deveraux. Have you found her?

*sorry, I see you have found her.

Bridget’s name is Number 7 on the passenger list.  Number 8 is for a Nelly? Muthers?, who possibly did not sail as the entry is crossed off.

On the following page, I believe Sister Mary Mother is actually Sister Mary Muthers(?) and was the relative for Nelly.

It’s a difficult image to read.  :-\
Ellison: Co. Wicklow/Canada       Fowley: Sligo/Canada       Furnival: Lancashire/Canada       Ibbotson: Sheffield/Canada       Lee/DeJongh: Lancashire & Cheshire       Mumford: Essex/Canada       Ovens: Ireland/Canada       Sarge: Yorkshire/Canada             Stuart: Sligo/Canada       Sullivan: Co. Clare/Canada      Vaus: Sussex/Surrey      Wakefield: Tuam or Ballinasloe, Ireland              (Surname: Originated/Place Last Lived)  (Canadians lived in Ontario)

You have seen her entry on the 1910 Arlington census, correct? Bridget “Shannon”, age 29, was a Servant. Listed (living?) with the Devereaux’s.

1914 sailing: she stated she had been in the states for 14 years.

Thank you all for your contributions it seems the Deverauxs had no connection to Bridget except being her employers. :)
