Looking for mother of Arthur and Frederick Attrill
« on: Saturday 23 September 23 14:29 BST (UK) »
In the 1901 census, John Attrill age 34 born Southampton is a boarder with the Trod family. With him are Elizabeth Attrill age 31, Arthur Attrill age 7 and Frederick Attrill age 5, all b Southampton. All listed as boarders, so assuming they are John's wife and chiildren. Can anyone please find birth registrations for the children and hence Elizabeth's maiden name.

John is shown as married but can't see an obvious marriage to an Elizabeth

There are a couple of Attrill births on freebmd in the timescale

You can use GRO online to establish mmn them match with the entries/marriage

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

Have you found them in 1911?

I have already tried looking at GRO, no births of boys of those name in Southampton in the right time frame. Haven't found any of the family in 1911 either. Or John definitely prior to 1901.
Possibly John and Elizabeth were not married and the boys were registered in her surname

I wonder if they were shown under the wrong surname?  There are 2 Arthur Attrill births but neither link to a John & Elizabeth marriage

A John Henry Attrill married Alice Masters 1894 & they had a son Frederick John later in 1894 so not them

Maybe I need to look at this another way. new research
I have a DNA match to Arthur's grandson. My DNA match's father was William Arthur Attrill who died in 2000. His death cert gives his dob as 27 Oct 1924. There is a William A Attrill mmn Jewell b reg Southampton district in Q4 1924 mmn Jewell. Marriage for Kate Jewell and Arthur G Attrell Q2 1922 Southampton district. On 1939 register, I have found William A with right birthdate with Arthur C? Attrill b 10 Oct 1898 and Kate Attrill b 27 June 1898. Arthur G or C Attrell died in 1953, Kate died in 1976. My DNA match was born in 1954 so would never have known his grandfather but would have probably known his grandmother well as they all stayed local to Southampton. So maybe I have to relook for Arthur with a possible middle initial and a dob of 10.10 1898
