Hi,

I'm struggling to find the family of Harold Callear (b. 1890) in the 1939 England and Wales Register (using Ances*.com). I would expect them to be in the Rotherham/Rawmarsh area.

Can you help?

Harold Callear (b. 1890)
wife: Emily Callear (b. ~1897)
son: John Callear (b. 14/01/1922) - I would expect his name not to be shown
son: Betsy (b. 1924)
son: Roy (b. 16/04/1927)
daugther: Joyce (b. 17/01/1929)
son: Joseph (b. 19/03/1931)
daugther: Florence (b. 1934)
son: Geoffrey (b. 1937)
son: Harold (b. 1938)

An older sibling (Sylvia b. 4 Jun 1920) is living at Thorn Terrace in Bradford [no known prior association with Bradford]

Think you'll find Emily and Betsey at 27 East Avenue, Rawmarsh, Yorkshire.

Haven't checked the others!

At that address are:
Emily (1897)
John (1922)
John (1938)
Joyce (1929)
Florence (1934)
Betsy (1924)

Harold may be in Armed Forces, and therefore not on the 1939 Register?

I don’t believe that 1938 John is correct. See image.

(Added…transcribed differently on ANC.)

Don't shoot the messenger!
Just transcribing what I found on FindMyPast.

Maybe this is Harry?

Thanks all - armed with your info I have managed to access the record but if I am honest I have tried unsuccessfully to get that search result/match (despite trying to expand my search)  ??? Can one of you explain what search you used so that I can hopefully avoid bothering you again?  ;D

FYI - This Harold was born Apr 4 1890 (recorded in the Rawmarsh, Yorks district).

I have the 1891 and 1901 census records for him but his 1911 census record also elude me. Can one of you kind folk weave your magic on that too?  ::)

For the 1939 I found it on FindMyPast then searched on Ancestry using one of the other names on the page.
And discovered the COLLVAR transcription.

But, if I didn’t have FindMyPast I would have tried wild cards.  Eg searching for Harold C*LL*R b abt 1890 finds them.
