Yes that's a good point. I think I must have pieced that together from the censuses for Joel/Joseph and his later children but I don't have an actual death record for her. I seem to have 1817 on ancestry but I can't back that up and it must have come from someone else's tree when I was less experienced

Family Search for the death, there are some original records there for the baptisms, (not many) but I do not see the marriage to Elizabeth Harding on that site.

Just to state the obvious, if he appears consistently as Joel on every document except the 1841 census, then his listing as Joseph in the 1841 census might well be a mistake or mistranscription by the enumerator.

Just to state the obvious, if he appears consistently as Joel on every document except the 1841 census, then his listing as Joseph in the 1841 census might well be a mistake or mistranscription by the enumerator.

This would make the most sense yes. The only possible thing aside from the 1841 is the GRO death record in 1862, which is for Joseph.
