Nora England - a disappearance
« on: Sunday 24 September 23 20:27 BST (UK) »
Nora England is the sister of my 2x great-grandmother Ethel England. They were both born in Hexthorpe - which is in Doncaster.
Ethel was born in 1886 and Nora was born in 1895 - by the 1901 census Nora is visiting family and isn't with the rest of the Englands, however 1911 is normal.
In 1915, Nora would have an illegitimate daughter named Eunice - she could've been planning to marry the father but he died during her pregnancy. After this, Nora leaves her daughter in the care of her elderly father George and her step-mother Lily and disappears. In the 1921 census, it says that Nora is still alive. (in one of Eunice's columns).
I once thought that Nora would marry later on in life, as her half-sister Ivy did, but this would be another ex-in-law of the family...
Where should I look for Nora? Marriages after 1915 are in distant locations to Doncaster.

If you have the exact date of birth, try the 1939 Register.
Was it possibly 3 May 1895?

Searching FreeBMD records, there is a likely entry for a marriage to a Walter Hynard in London/Middx in 1921.

That sounds like a very sensible idea! And the price for a digtal image is almost a bargain!

Well, I've gone and bought it - looks like a match!
I wonder why she suddenly moved down to London - I can't find her on the 1921 census, I think she got married after it was taken.

1921 free index...a possible? In household with others.

Would need to pay to view for full details

Same area as marriage, which was Mar Q 1921 so would be married. 1921 census taken 19 June 1921.

Could be mistranscribed or an error for Nora birthplace?

N Hynard, 1897, born Santa Fe, Argentina living Willesden, Middlesex
W Hynard 1897 born London, England living Willesden, Middlesex
