Townland of Lisheenakirka (Macroney civil parish) ?
« on: Monday 25 September 23 11:47 BST (UK) »
This townland appears in the Tithe Applotment books http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/pagestab/Cork/Macroney/ but I can't find it at

- logainm.ie - https://www.logainm.ie/en/s?txt=lisheenakirka&str=on
- townlands.ie https://www.townlands.ie/cork/macroney/
- John Grenham https://www.johngrenham.com/c_parish/c_parish_main.php?civilparishid=104&civilparish=Macroney&CountyMap=

So where's it gone ?

I assume it was renamed, merged, or something like that, which poses a more general question - when the townlands in the earlier records are different from those in later records how does one find out which new ones match which old ones ?
Most roots researched back to the early/mid 1800s. Years noted as 'pre' refer to my direct ancestors, although I'm interested in any relatives:
Mitchelstown, Co.Cork: CORBETT (pre1935), SWEENEY  (pre1935), CUSACK? (pre1894), KEYS? (pre1894)
Mallow, Co.Cork: BROWNE (1895-1935)
Caher, Co.Tipp: BROWNE (pre1895), PURTELL(pre1895)
Cashel, Co.Tipp: FANNING (pre1886)
Llanelly, Carms: GRIFFITHS (pre1934), REYNOLDS (pre1901), WILLIAMS (pre1934)
Ton Pentre, Glams: LEWIS (pre1901)

On the tithe applotment it says farm of Lyre Barry
Lyre(Barry) does come up on the other sites
https://www.logainm.ie/en/s?txt=Lyre+%28Barry%29&str=on
https://www.townlands.ie/cork/condons-and-clangibbon/macroney/gortnaskehy/lyre-barry/
Further down it says farm of Billerough which I'd say is Billeragh West/East
https://www.townlands.ie/cork/condons-and-clangibbon/macroney/gortnaskehy/billeragh-west/
https://www.townlands.ie/cork/condons-and-clangibbon/macroney/gortnaskehy/billeragh-east/

All three appear to be next to each other
I haven't looked at the rest of it yet

Could it be in the vicinty of Lyreen, which seems to be missing?  But having said that, there are a few differences in the townlands across the parish (when compared to Griffith's for example).  In such circumstances, I usually look for an unusual surname and do a comparison on that surname with Griffith's.  In this case for example, have a look at the Lomasneys.

On your more general point, I'm not aware of an online resource for townlands and subdivisions pre 19th century, I'd love someone to post one.  If it doesn't exist, then there's a chunk of work that needs done to look at documentation in the 1600s and 1700s and reconcile it to the stuff we know from the 1800s, for I've encountered these townland issues so many times now.

The total for Lisheenakirka is just over 1756 Irish acres which converts to 2844 Statute acres
The acres given for the townlands on IreAtlas Townland database is
Lyre (Barry) 648
Billeragh East 905
Billeragh West 810
Lyreen 304
gives us 2667
allowing for variations in measurements over time and the change between Irish and Statute that's fairly close for those four townlands to be Lisheenakirka and they are all next to each other.

Thank you both. I was hoping that I'd overlooked some important resource, but it appears not. So educated guesswork it will have to be. Totting up the areas and checking surnames against Griffiths Valuation it is then.
