Rosebank New Street (now Newtoft Street ) Gilmerton Edinburgh
« on: Monday 25 September 23 18:44 BST (UK) »

Hi,
I am trying to find out who lived in the above house pre 1940 . All I know that on the 1940 valuation roll it was a William Blair but have no idea how to find who were previous owners etc.

Thanks for any help.

There's a selection of valuation rolls online at Scotland's People from 1855 to 1940. You have to search in Edinburgh under city or burgh, and scroll through to find Gilmerton as there are other Rosebanks in the city.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
