Lovell Audley Le Bas baptised 24th May 1846 at St Marylebone, Westminster.
« on: Tuesday 26 September 23 17:10 BST (UK) »
Lovell Audley Le Bas was born 8th March 1846 and baptised at St Marylebone Westminster on 24th May 1846. The the time of his baptism is abode is recorded as Cleveland Street. His father is recorded as William Audley and his mother  Ann Frances Le Bas. In the  GRO index his birth is registered in Q1 1846 at St Pancras Vol 1 page 382.

In the 1851 census he is recorded as Lovel Le Bars (sic) at 17, Cleveland Street St Pancras (HO107/1494/333/15) His mother is recorded as Fanny Le Bars, a widow and his father is recorded as W Ludley (sic) a visitor.

I believe his mother died in Q3 1853 as Fanny Audley aged 40 St Pancreas vol 1b  page 27 ( I have no evidence to show Fanny and William ever married!!)

In the 1861 his father is at Fur cottage, Putney,  RG 9/374/49/6 ,now married., and recorded as  William Audley.

My problem is that I cannot find any record of Lovell Audley Le Bas after the 1851 census. Can any body please help?

Thanks Wirral Lad

Rosie99
Thanks for your reply; and I will look at familysearch.

The 1910 US Federal Census gives his year of imigration as 1904 and his wife' year of imigration as 1901.
So how could he have married in Manhatten in 1870?

Nothing to stop him going there, leaving then returning some years later.  :)

I think that you need to look at the documents in FS and see what they say, I have not looked at them

Hi Rosie99,

Thanks for your last reply.
I had to go out for a while after my first reply to you and have only now had chance to to look more fully at the information on  the Familysearch website.

His death record on familysearch clearly gives his father as William Audley and his date of birth matches that on the baptism record so this is clearly the person whose birth registration gives his name as Lovell Audley Le Bas.  (surname La Bas).

His naturalisation record 1888 indicates he arrived in the US in 1869 which agrees with his imigration record on the Ellis Island Foundation.

So sometime between 1851 and 1869 he changed his surname from Le Bas the surname he was registered at birth with to that of his father.

At the time of the 1861 census of England and Wales he would have been 15 years of age and was not living with his father I wonder if after his mother died in 1853 hev went into  some form of institution.

Thanks for your help
Regards
