OKay Steph

On the marriage is the mark of a Joseph Spring. There is a Joseph marrying in Ridgmont in 1832.

If both marriages had been later than 1836 then the link would have been easy as the father would have been noted.

Maybe they were non-conformists therefore not in Church Records or had so many children they could not afford to baptise Abraham.

Oh well, worth a shot.  I see there was an Abraham Spring baptised Hexton in 1816 but that seems unlikely.
Thanks for the info, will change Avice to Avis.

In his later years Abraham worked at Wobourn Abbey, described as a "wood watcher" in 1871, a "park watchmen in 1891.  He's one of my 3x great grandfathers.  Thanks for all the above information Sandy and Steph.

Hi, On 1861 census Abraham Spring's wife was transcribed as Ivey, although on image the first letter looks like an 'A' . Other names on later image pages,  such as Isaac do show an 'I'

On same image is a Jonus Chance age 55 - Night Watchman & wife Mary Ann age 51  - are these Ivey's parents ?

Also on 1861 there's a Samuel Spring b 1787  age 76 widower, living at Log House Woburn, occupation Keeper; with daughter Fanny age 40 housekeeper; both born Ridgemont.

good luck John

Hi John, Thanks for this.  Yes, Abraham's wife was Avis.  Her parents were Jonas Chance born 1775 Eversholt and Mary Tingey, they married Sept 1800 in Evershot.  They had a son Joans Chance bpt March 1804 who married Mary Ann Newton in Eversholt in July 1827, so the Jonas and Mary you found in 1861 were Avis' brother and sister-in-law rather than her parents.  Jonas Chance senior died in 1859.  I've got his death certificate if you want the details.

Very interested in Samuel Spring b 1787.  As you can see from above messages we've not been able to definitely trace Abraham's father yet as there's no entry for Abraham on the Ridgemont parish register.
In 1881 however, Abraham lived in the same place as Samuel,  Log Cottage Woburn.  He's described as a "general lab", but in 1871 he's at Springs Lodge Woburn Abbey as a "wood watcher" and in 1891 at the Park Lodge Woburn, as a park watchman.  Does make me wonder now whether Samuel might be his father.  I'll try and find out more about Samuel.  I've got Abraham and Avis' death certificates so let me know if you want the details.  Are you related to them as well?

Cheers, Lesley

John, if it's no trouble, do you have the RG reference for the 1861 Eversholt page for Abraham and Avis Spring and Joans and Mary Ann Chance please?  Only if it's no trouble though (am sure I'll be able to track it down).  I've found Samuel Spring in Woburn.  Thanks again.

Hi
Samuel was the brother of my ggg grandmother Elizabeth.  It is their brother John whom I believe to be the father of Abraham.

HI Lesley

I have the Chance family tree (there are no end of them).

It is Abraham's  daughter Jane Spring who is my ancestor who marries George Willis who's daughter Hannah Avis Willis marries Alfred William Sibley my grandfather.

I knew all the details about Abraham but it is great to see the connection.

Is Louisa the one who marries 3 times ( I know one daughter did) as I don't have my notes to hand.

My 1st grand father also worked at Woburn Abbey.

Hi Lesley

Just to note the reason Abraham is only my 2nd Great Grandfather is because my mother had me in her forties and grand-mother had my mum in her forties and grand -dad Alfred was baptised in Husborne Crawley in 1864.

That means usually this is people 3rd Great grandparents so they think I can't work out the line right  ;D ;D ;D.
