Military initials in a Census
« on: Tuesday 26 September 23 21:18 BST (UK) »

I have found a reference in a census which I don't understand.

In the 1901 Census at Hawarden Flintshire he lists his occupation as "Sergeant Major".
In the 1911 Census he lists his occupation as "army pensioner, Lieutenant and  GTMaster B1 R W FNS"

Does anyone know the meaning of "GTMaster B1 R W FNS"?

I have no idea what regiment this applies to.

TIA

Jim

Could it be an abbreviation of Quarter Master,
Royal Welsh Fusiliers
Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

I have just searched for info and used his name and this came up.

So, it looks like Lieutenant QuarterMaster 1st/5th Battalion of Royal Welsh Fusilliers
