Linford child born out of wedlock
« on: Thursday 28 September 23 15:01 BST (UK) »
I’m wondering if someone could find the biological father of my great x2 Grandfather John Wilfred Linford (born – 10 Nov 1883 in Cambridgeshire).
He was born out of wedlock; I believe his mother is Annie Linford (born 1862) (John kept her surname). Annie later went on to marry Alfred Prime in 1888.
The only family knowledge of his father was the possible surname of Laversham.

That could be difficult, am guessing no father was on the birth certificate?

Have you looked for a Mr Laversham in the area he was born on 1881 census to start with?

Did he marry Florence Hill in 1904?

If so he names his father on the marriage certificate as Alfred Linford butcher

People did make up fathers names when they married but there could be a grain of truth in either the first name or occupation.

Yes he did marry Florence Hill.

John may have put Alfred Linford as his father as his step father was called Alfred Prime.

Yes I see his step father was Alfred and a butcher so that makes sense.

I can only see Leversham - William in 1881 Cambridgeshire and he is age 50 and pauper inmate of the workhouse.

No other clues however small?

My great uncle believes that ??? Laversham was the vicars son, however this is the only clue I have.

Ok, vicar of the place he was born?  Sorry am not familiar with places in Cambridgeshire.

In 1881 Annie is 19 and a domestic servant in Willingham.

I either have him born in Swavesey or Lolworth

All census show birthplace as Lolworth.

I take it you haven't got his birth certificate with exact address of birth on then?
