Thank you for your reference to the 1895 scam case and involving Chancery. I was able to use your reference in my story line:

Scams are not a modern day issue

Before, Joseph Banks prepared his reply in 1898, then it is hoped that he was aware of the following case of a Chancery scam reported in the Australian Town and County Journal [Sydney] that was published on Sat 16 Nov 1895.

Joseph’s birthplace of Bermondsey was also the location named of the policeman named Taylor, who was scammed into believing that he was also entitled to an inheritance held in Chancery.
