Gunner Albert SMITH 1920
« on: Friday 29 September 23 15:36 BST (UK) »
Can anybody help?

Gnr ALBERT SMITH, 278206, Royal Field Artillery died on 4 Aug 1920 at the Curragh Military Hospital in Ireland. Aged about 19, he died from acute appendicitis
The website Cairo Gang.com states that he was the son of Mr and Mrs William Smith of 50 Keighley Road, Silsden and that he was buried in Silsden.
No record of this burial found so far.  BUT, on 6 Aug (2 days after Albert's death) a William Smith of that address and a son Ex-Bdr JOSEPH SMITH were buried together at St James Silsden. Joseph had also died on 4 Aug.
Looks like some confusion or mis-interpretation of data.
Can anyone throw any light on the subject?  Albert is listed on the Brookwood memorial.

Have you looked for Albert in 1911 with father William & brother Joseph - I can’t see any match

Who was living at 50 Keighley Rd in 1921 - if other Smith family members were there it helps for tracking back & eliminating Albert as a member of that family

Silsden came under Keighley RD and the deaths you quote all fell in the September qtr.  Freebmd has nothing for Joseph but there is a 69yr old William Smith

No Joseph Smith died in that timescale on the cwgc site

No MRI entry under that number

CWGC have Bdr Joseph Smith, 100 Bty, Royal Field Artillery, died 4 Aug 1920, aged 30, son of Mr and Mrs William Smith, 50 Keighley Road, Silsden, buried at St James Church, Silsden.  Report in Craven Herald of 13 Aug records that Joseph and his father William were buried together at St James on 6 Aug.

Gunner Albert Smith's personal representative was his brother Robert R but no payment was due to his estate.

The mother of 54120 Joseph Smith was Mary Clarkson:

Birth of Joseph:
Births Mar 1890   (>99%)
SMITH    Joseph        Skipton    9a   37

There are no corresponding births for an Albert Smith to Mary Clarkson in Skipton (Silsden) around 1901.

I am very grateful to everybody who replied to my post. It now seems pretty clear that the Silsden connection was a mis-interpretation of data somewhere down the line so I am setting that option aside and will concentrate elsewhere. Thank you again.
