Details written on back of photo of a photo shoot 1800s
« on: Friday 29 September 23 23:28 BST (UK) »
Hi.
This is on the back of a photo taken before 1895 at the studio of Horne and Thornthwaite.
My initial attempt, with a bit of guesswork, is:
"Photographed by ?
? ? ? was there being shown how to make Photos
and my photo ? ? his own seal on to the plate"

Could to be Bell of Wolsingham? Surname and place name perhaps? I can’t make out the other ?? words ….

Added! Not convinced about this but a guess:

… “marked with his own gel on the plate” …

The first word may not be “marked” but it does seem to end in ‘ed’.

Just to add that Horne and Thorntwaite moved from Newgate St to Hoborn Viaduct in 1874, so unless it was old cardstock, the photograph may be somewhat earlier than 1895.

Thank you very much everyone. Good suggestions.
I'll keep pondering this but may not reach a definitive answer.
