Edward W Jenkinson - Towards Castle
« on: Monday 02 October 23 13:19 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Looking to confirm the occupation of Edward Wasey Jenkinson on the 1911 census. Family believed he was working as underbutler at Toward Castle although originally from Norfolk, England. I have located an Edward W Jenkinson of appropriate age in Argyll in 1911 but don't have access to the record.
Any helpwould be much appreciated.

Was he Edward Wasey or Wasey Edward Jenkinson? Can find FindMyPast entries for Wasey/Waisey Edward Jenkinson (birth registration, census 1890, 1901 and 1921, marriage certificate 3 Apr 1920 - occpn. Foreman).

Significantly, 1911 Census not found.

He was Wasey Edward but as Wasey was spelt so many different ways in records he quite often chose to be Edward Wasey. Wasey was originally an ancestors surname.

I have all other census, baptism, marriage records etc and was told that in 1911 he went to Scotland as the lairds servant and later went to battle with him as his man

You do in fact have access to the 1911 census record you seek.  As Neale 1961 has pointed out (twice!), the 1911 Scottish census is available on ScotlandsPeople (www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk).   It's a pay-per-view site, but modestly priced and you can download digital images of original documents instantly,

The 1911 census index (free to view once you have registered) lists Edward W. Jenkinson aged 22 living in Dunoon, Argyll.  (Toward Castle is near Dunoon).   The full record should give you his occupation and place of birth.
