there's a possible baptism for the witness Rhoda at the Heathfield Independent Church 14 June 1807  Rhoda born 6 May daughter of John & Elizabeth Reid.
Baptisms to same parents, same church
Rubin born 14 Oct 1809 baptised 12 Nov
Zilpah born 22 Jan 1814 baptised 6 March

Also earlier baptisms to possibly the same couple in Heathfield
Hannah baptised 20 July 1794
Tryphena baptised 14 July 1799 - buried 3 Jan 1800

possible marriage in Heathfield 11 Feb 1794 John Reed & Elizabeth Upton
So there's a gap in the baptisms where Jeremiah(& others) could fit.

Also, Hannah Reed married William Foster 26 Feb 1813 in Warbleton. They baptise at least 2 children in Heathfield Independent Church. One of the witnesses to both Rhoda b. 1829 & Harriett Reed's marriages is a Jeremiah Foster. He married 21 Sept 1852 in Hastings to Harriett Harrod and his father is noted as William Foster, labourer.

1871 census 19 Middle Road Hastings RG10/1031 folio 83 pg 37
Jeremiah Foster head mar 49 railway switchman b. Warbleton
Hannah wife 48 b. Westfield
George son 28 railway labourer b. Idon
William father widower 82 gardener b. Warbleton

1851 for William & Hannah

I thought Ansley and Milton sounded like surnames being carried on in the family but it could be

from the Sands side and not the Reed side.

First daughter is Rhoda, she would normally be named after the maternal grandmother but her name was Lucy, so maybe his mother was Rhoda?

Harriet, Sophia, George, are from the Sands side and maybe Ansley Lucy 1843-1847.

That leaves Emily, Frances, Milton and maybe Ansley Rosalie from the Reed side.

Half of my ancestry is in that area of Sussex, and Ansley turns up as a girl’s name, with various spellings, here and there.  I have a couple in my tree.
You probably have tried this, but Anc has wills up to 1858 for Sussex.  I was able to confirm an ancestor by checking them.

Thank you for the  hint, I have not be able to find any Wills for this side of my family, probably nothing to leave to anyone as generally agricultural labourers.  Will take another look though

Thank you for this, I have to find Hannah and who her birth parents are.  there is definately a link between Ruebens family and Jeremiah's but where.  Rueben's father John, has brothers Samuel, Jeremiah, William, all married with gaps in their family for Jeremiah 1804. So think this is the family but which brother ?

Hannah Reed who married William Foster was probably a daughter of John & Elizabeth Reed baptised in Mayfield, not far from Heathfield.

"Hi, my 3 x great grandfather is Jeremiah Reed, apparently born in 1804 ( according to an entry in a family bible) "

Can you post an image of the whole page in the bible.

When and where was the bible printed....should be on inside, near cover somewhere.

The Bible in not in my ownership, it was gifted to Ansley Roselaid Honeysett, Granddaughter of Jeremiah Reed.  I have photocopies of the pages relevant to the Reed/Hunnisett line, none of which show publication date etc.  The Bible is in the Coleman family as Ansley Roselaid married into this family
