John Emanuel Kelly
« on: Tuesday 03 October 23 16:05 BST (UK) »
John Emanuel Kelly (or Emmanuel, though Emanuel is how he spells it himself) was born in 1898 in Lismore, Co Waterford and later his family went to live in Dublin, first in 33 Millmount Avenue, Drumcondra, then in 103 Hollybank Road.
His parents were John Kelly (listed as clerk, later accountant) and Mary Margaret Duhy.
He later lived in 7 Eckstein Road, Clapham Junction, London - he married and had at least one child (name withheld because he would have been born around 1926 so might still be in it). But once he leaves Ireland, he's lost to me. I can't find his marriage or his death in 1940 - possibly both in England. I think his wife may have predeceased him.
I can't find his parents' marriage either; oddly, their 1901 census entry says John Kelly Sr was born in Co Waterford, but the 1911 census entry says America.

1911 http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Drumcondra/Drishogue__Millmount_Ave_/1271817/
Part of my problem is that I'm having trouble getting familysearch.org to cooperate with me: I can find John E Kelly ok in his birth and census records, but can't see how to persuade the site to show me who and when and where he married and died.

I can't find his parents' marriage either;

Marriage 15 September 1897 at Tipperary RC Church. John Kelly a book-keeper and both living at Main Street, Tipperary. Note that Mary in both 1901 & 1911 indicates Tipperary (Town) as birthplace.

Thank you very much, that's my boy's parents all right! I see his widowed grandfather is in both the 1901 and 1911 census too.

Might this be his death in 1940 (on FreeBMD)?

It might, but that doesn't give enough information to say that it definitely is him - just John E Kelly, aged 42 who died in Battersea.

You need to order the death record from the England/Wales GRO.

Ahh. I see. Thanks. Would someone who lived in Clapham die in Battersea? I have sad experiences of ordering records which turn out to be the wrong ones.
