No mention of James or Fletcher families not sure how they tie in?

They could be connections sideways - a sibling of someone in the tree had married into a James or Fletcher family

They moved fairly fast to enlist Percy after his exemption ended as by Sept 1917 when he married, he was a gunner in the Royal Field Artillery

I don;t think you'd get an exemption for that as you could just request leave from your regiment, or wait. It was usually requested because someone was essential to his employers and couldn't be replaced, or had a number of dependents reliant solely on him

The 1916 Act laid down exemptions - download/view PDF and check section 2.

Thanks so much for link 👌
I cant think of any reason for Percy to be exempt other then that maybe because he worked at the nearby Tweed mill in Chippy?
