Neil Mellon Death 1875 - Injuries by ?Railway Engine - Coroners Inquest
« on: Saturday 07 October 23 17:10 BST (UK) »

I am looking for further information for Neil Mellon whose death is registered in 1875 and was buried in Heworth, Durham on 8th March 1875.  Age given as 32.

There is a death registered in the first quarter of 1875 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland,  Neil Mallon aged 30.

I  received a copy of that death certificate but it has very little information relating to the deceased.

The information on the certificate is as follows:

Date: 6th March 1875 - Infirmary.   Deceased: Neil Mellon Male aged about 30 years.
Occupation: Labourer, Chemical Works.  Injuries by ?Railway Engine ?   ?
Certificate received by J T Hoyle, Coroner for Newcastle,  Inquest held 6th March 1875.

There is no further information as regards where he was living, marital status or family.

I have checked FindMyPast Newspapers to see if this was reported but cannot find anything.

I believe Neil Mallon could be my ancestor ancestor,  and nephew of my GG Grandfather Patrick Mellon who was living in Bill Quay at this time.

On the 1871 census my GG Grandparents Patrick and Bridget Mellon are living with their family at Heworth Lane with a Neil Mellon staying with them aged 28.

Do any members know where else I could search and why there isn't an address for him on the death certificate.

This link shows what information you can expect to find on a death certificate for that time, it does not include a home address where the person dies away from home

rosie99 Thank you for the link.

The death certificate doesn't state which infirmary he died at - it just states "infirmary".
