Stuck at a brick wall with my ancestor Richard Humphrey
« on: Saturday 07 October 23 18:20 BST (UK) »
Hello

Would anyone be able to help, I'm totally stuck trying to find his parents, I've always wanted to know more about my North Wales family but can't get any further than this ancestor:

Richard Humphrey

Birth: 20/10/1747 - Llandegai, Caernarvonshire, Wales

Death: 02/05/1804 - Tyn yn y Clawod, Llandegai, Caernarvonshire, Wales

Spouse: Grace Pritchard

Spouse birth: 1784 - Tyn yn y Clawod, Llandegai, Caernarvonshire, Wales

Spouse death: 1866 - Tregarth, Caernarvonshire, Wales

I think the family goes back to Rhyl from the Humphrey family but I've been at this bit for years and just can't get further.

Thanks for any advice.

think you may have posted this on the wrong board. Click on 'report to moderator' and ask for it to be moved to the Caernarvonshire board.

I've done a quick check as the house name didn't quite ring true to me as a Welsh speaker.

Looks like it's Ty'n Y Clawdd  - see https://historicplacenames.rcahmw.gov.uk/placenames/recordedname/98f987ef-2fef-45b1-b086-7c8c5d6d29d3

Also, there's a few Ancestry trees that have Grace as Richard's daughter which makes more sense given the age difference. There's no strong documentary evidence base for this. I guess they're assuming use of the patronymic system to get her surname to be Prichard.

Some of them (copying each other I think) claim his wife was Margaret Pierce, and his parents Mark Humphrey and Margaret Parry

Going back to basics. How do you know Richard's date of birth? Have you found his baptism?
