1830 Baptism
« on: Sunday 08 October 23 21:14 BST (UK) »
I am seeking some input on a 1830 baptism in Wigan:

I am having troubles with the name of the mother of the child. The first letter seems clear to be an S, based on other words on the page. I am wondering if it is just recorded as Sing?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Thanks, that must be it. I guess this is from FamilySearch.

I am new to research in the Wigan area, but one thing I have noticed is that there are a lot of people baptised with nickname - Molly, Peggy, Kitty.

It isn't Lisy or Li__ anything.

Compare to Single from Single Woman in the original clip.

Then compare to the L in the surnames Lowe and Lawson attached here.

ADDED:

If I had to choose to save my life, and taking into account the y in Henry in the clip attached, then I would say it's Sisy.

If you flip forward through the pages on the link to the original image and look at Lancaster (top) and Son of (left hand columns) on most pages--noting the difference in the formation of the initial letters-- I think there's quite a consistency, pointing to a difference, so that it's more likely to be Sisy than Lisy.

Sisy, variously spelt (e.g., Sissy, Cissy) was used as a diminutive for Cecilia, Frances and Priscilla; perhaps one of those names comes up in the family?

Thanks. It does seem more like it is Sisy, but the mother's name was actually Lizy.
