Surrey or thereabouts death
« on: Tuesday 10 October 23 01:22 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to determine a date of death for William E. Palmer, possibly in Surrey.
What I know : He was possibly born 6 October 1874 (1939  England Register).  He married as possibly a second wife Mary Annie Fell (nee Websdale) in 1932 at Kingston-upon-Thames.  His widow Mary Annie died 14 April 1955 at Knaphill, Surrey.   Their residential address was 72 Gibbon Road, Kingston-upon-Thames.  There is a William E. Palmer on the GRO passing in 1947 in Surrey but as I don't know what the "E" stands for, I can't be sure.
Many thanks for reading my post.
Best wishes
Stuart McDonald

Thank you so much Carole, I'll claim the 73 aged one, at least I know what the "E" stands for now.
Best regards
Stuart

He’s possibly the Dec 1873 birth in Mile End.  His mothers maiden name was Millman.  It’s not unusual on the 1939 register to get the correct day & month but the birthyear can be a year out

1871 marriage Stepney - William Henry Palmer/Emma Jane Millman

Mary Annie died at Knaphill Hospital but her address was 72 Gibbon Rd Kingston upon Thames according to her probate entry

I suspect that 'Knaphill hospital' may be 'Brookwood hospital' which was in Knaphiil.  It was a mental health hospital.  That would possibly account for her not being in hospital in the Kingston area

Thanks for the backstory, but they didn't call it "mental health" back then, luckier times we live in....maybe

I realise that they did not call it mental health back then.  I lived near to this hospital as a child and can remember how it was referred to.  I also have a relation who was in there and took their own life.
