Enjoy the rugby, SS.

On the switching surnames idea (possibly now a mad one), I looked for *conte in the 1911 census on ancestry, occupation waiter. Found only one, Henry Conte, 23, born in Avegnon in France. A restaurant waiter at 25 Frith Street in Westminster.
He is with two other Contes born same place (were they brothers?), the head being Pierre Conte, 35, Restaurant Keeper. All three of them were single.
Pierre Conte is in the 1909 PO London Directory at 25 Frith Street. But not 1908. Perhaps though he could have been in London around that time, working as a waiter? :-\

Hi Softly Softly and Jonw65,

Softly, Softly's original link was https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6FQS-8CSD

Looking at the image closely are the words 'denaurant a Cotterio' which I take to mean living in 'Cotterio'.
As far as I can see 'Cotterio' is  less than 2 miles from Bothoa in Cote du Nord.
This suggests that Softly Softly is correct but it does not explain  'Le Conte'

Hi there
I think Softly Softly has now ruled out that birth, as she sadly died in childhood :(
But I may have another one for you :D

Marie Tydeman's date of birth in 1939 was 10 Nov 1883
And remember that Marie's death reg in 1968 had her names the other way round? She was registered as Mathurine M. Tydeman.

Well we have a Mathurine le Moigne born in the Côtes-du-Nord on 10 November 1884!

Is there a specific place of birth on there? I can't read French, only English (just about!)

That looks good jonw.I will stick my neck out and say lets cut to the chase, get the marriage cert to Tydeman. Until then we are all working in the dark.
