Jeremiah O’Shea
« on: Wednesday 11 October 23 14:11 BST (UK) »
Hi
I’m researching for a friend who is trying to trace her Irish roots.
We believe the following is correct in the 1901 & 1911 Irish census. Newcastle Co Limerick.
Jeremiah O’Shea b 1855 gardener, Mary (Kehoe or Keogh) children John, James and Mary with a previous wife. Catherine and Jeremiah with Mary.
We would like to find,
 a) his first wife. He marries Mary in 1897. We assume his first wife died between 1890 and then, as his daughter Mary is born c 1890.
b) his father’s details who is named as Patrick O’Shea on the marriage registration. My friend has a Patrick on her tree married to a Bridget Deenin-Shea but this must be incorrect as he would be 10 and she 11, when Jeremiah was born.
Regards
Brian

It helps to provide links to information that's already been found to save us searching for the same details. Here are the census records-

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Limerick/Newcastle_Urban/Bishop_Street/639984/

Birth of son James- mother Kate Sheahan-

You can use that site to search for details of other children, Jeremiah's first marriage, etc.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks
I did try to put down as much information as possible.
I did say we’d found them in 1901 & 1911.

Below is a possible candidate for Jeremiah in the Newcastle West RC parish registers, baptised on 22 April 1855 for parents Patrick Shea and Catherine Dowling, the sponsors were Michael Dore and Brigid Shea (right page, last entry):
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000635004#page/17/mode/1up

The same named couple had a son Timothy Shea baptised in the same parish on 30 March 1857, the sponsors were Daniel and Catherine Dore (left page, 2nd entry down):
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000635004#page/26/mode/1up

Patrick Shea and Catherine Dowling were married in Newcastle West RC parish on 19 February 1854, the witnesses were William Dowling and Catherine Sullivan (right page, 4th entry up from bottom):

RootsIreland has a transcript of the church record of marriage on 13 November 1881 between Jeremiah O'Shea and Catherine Sheahan, again Newcastle West RC parish, no father's details recorded, just John O'Connor and Catherine Hanley as witnesses.
