St. George's RC / cathedral marriage look up request
« on: Wednesday 11 October 23 19:46 BST (UK) »
Hi

Looking for the details of the marriage of Edmund Fitzgibbon/s, which took place at St George's Cathedral Southwark in 1855. I don't have the actual date but was registered in Jul-Aug-Sept. Looking for name of bride and other details  - condition, occupation, fathers and witnesses names.

TIA
Graham

Think you will need to buy the marriage cert for fathers names.

Have you found him in 1861 - any wife with him?  Only 2 possibles on marriage entry - Catherine or Bridget?

Any childrens births on freebmd?  You can get mmn using GRO online

Thanks Carole but I was hoping someone has access to the actual  church records for St Georges. If not, then I will order the cert. I'm just curious to know Edmunds father as given. There are a few Edmunds in the census records and baptisms so it's hard to identify and be sure.

Still looking for a look up if anyone has access to St George's marriages 1855. Thanks.

It looks as though they may be available on FindMyPast, otherwise email the Cathedral.

What is on FindMyPast appears to be simply an index to the marriages.

The brides name was Catherine Hanafin.

I wonder if Bridget had been married before? The children look to be registered as O’Brien whilst the marriage, if it is the right one, shows Hennessy.

Th3 certificate will explain, hopefully.

I have just read Jen’s post, so no idea now. ???

That was Bridget Hennessy to Thomas Fitzgibbons, also at St George RC, Southwark.

Thanks everyone for your interest and input. I wonder if Catherine Hanafin called herself 'Bridget'. I will approach/email St George's first then order the cert if they're not willing to look.

Thanks again
Graham
