[RESOLVED] Thomas Cahill/Carroll, Birmingham 1881–1891
« on: Thursday 12 October 23 13:42 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'm trying to find out what happened to Thomas Cahill or Carroll, born 1872 to James Cahill/Carroll and Ellen Reading in Birmingham.

The only two records I can find are his baptism in 1872 and on the 1881 Census at 2 Court, House 2, Hospital Street.

On the 1891 Census the family is at 14 Court, House 8, New Summer Street but Thomas is missing, so he either died or got married in the intervening period.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Maybe this is him in 1891, I can't find a birth for Cohill.

This Thomas Carroll can be found on census records in Cleveland Cuyahoga Ohio although different birth years on census forms

Findagrave has a record death 13 March 1937
Highland Park Cemetery
Cuyahoga County Ohio

Death certificate on family search but parents unknown
Might be worth checking

Oh wow, it never occurred to me he might have gone to America. Childhood mortality rates were terrible at that time so I was thinking along those lines...

Thank you very much!

P.s.

Just had a look on Ancestry. He emigrated to Elgin County, Ontario, Canada and married Emily George in 1909. His wife died there in 1927 and it seems Tom applied to live in the US in 1937 but chose to stay in Elgin as he's buried in the same plot as his wife. He died in 1955.

Thanks again, I just needed a little push in the right direction.
