How is Henrietta Lane related to the Strides
« on: Saturday 14 October 23 13:27 BST (UK) »
Henrietta Lane was born about 1828 in King's Somborne. She married Henry Green on 4 July 1853 Portsea, her father was William. An online tree has her mother as Mary nee Norris. In 1841 Henrietta is with her father and presumed siblings. I think her mother must have died by then. In 1851 she and younger sister Ellen /Helen are with Thomas Stride and his wife Elizabeth in Romsey, they are recorded as nieces. Thomas Stride b West Tytherley married Elizabeth Norris in Romsey, so if Henrietta's mother was Mary Norris it is possible she was Elizabeth's sister.
If so this would make Henrietta the niece of Elizabeth Stride nee Norris, but no blood relative to Thomas Stride.
I have a DNA match with a descendant of Henrietta and a Common Ancestors / thrulines hint that suggests That our link is through my Stride line. Can anyone find out if Thomas and Henrietta are related other than by marriage, please

Daughter Frances Charlotte married George Permain 24 November 1844, the witnesses are

Thomas Stride and Henrietta Amelia Lane.

Frances died 24 May 1869 ref: probate index.
----------------------
Daughter Helen Rosetta Lane never married she died 1922 age 87 registered Southampton.

1921 census she is a boarder at 63 Wilton Road Southampton

------------------------
Possible for daughter Mary Ann Lane may have married Thomas Morgan 30 November 1842 at St Thomas Winchester.
Not at her home church so maybe not the correct Mary Ann Lane.

Thank you for all this wonderful information. I have found the image on Ancestry now and on same day and in same church Thomas Stride of West Tytherley married Elizabeth Norris with the same witnesses. I believe this Thomas was the son of a Thomas and Elizabeth, there is a baptism in West T in the right year.
But still only a relationship by marriage between Henrietta and Thomas Stride.
It looks like Elizabeth and Mary Norriss's parents were James and Elizabeth, there are possible baptisms in Romsey

All the families referenced married by license, have you checked to see if the licenses or application for still exist perhaps in the local records office.

It may tell you a little more about the parties involved.

James Norris married Elizabeth Beare/Bear 8 February 1790 by license at Romsey, witness Isaac Norris, Betty Norris and Joseph T   ?  Jr.

James was buried 29 May 1818 age 53.

He wrote his will (ancestry) 5 September 1811 before any of his children married. He was the Inn Keeper of the Dukes Head Public House
It was not probated until 14 October 1828 as he named 2 friends John Fifield and Thomas Hall as executors, they had both since died and had not probated his estate, the widow Elizabeth renounced so it went to son James Norris. There is an explanation at the very end.
Long story short he names his wife Elizabeth, son James and daughters Elizabeth, Mary and Sarah.

I believe Sarah Norris married James Stroud 29 October 1816 also by license.
