There is a newspaper snippet on Find my Past which mentions:
Joseph Devine, late of Ballymeice, Tallaght;
It says ‘deeply regretted’.
He was taken into St. Anne’s Church, Bohernabreena, in the evening with the funeral at St Joseph's Cemetery the following day.

I would think Ballymeice is https://www.townlands.ie/dublin/uppercross/tallaght/tallaght-ed-1901/ballymaice/

Of the 10 death records on the sheet, seven indicate that the informant was the inmate (title) of the relevant hospital. So Joseph Devine's informant (at Grangegorman) was Henry J Kelly (inmate).

None of these details match those that you have though.

Thank you for everyone’s input, very much appreciated. There is another possible 1901 census entry for him (attached) so difficult to say which might be correct, especially as we don’t know for definite who is mother is and although we know his father was also Joseph Devine, a Carpenter, he is listed as deceased in his son Joseph’s 1919 marriage certificate, so he might have died early which fits in with no father mentioned in both the 1901 census entries.

The 1969 death can’t be correct as he is the wrong age. The 1949 death looks to be the correct one, as it is the only death registered for a Joseph Devine I can find that matches a birth year of around 1881. Although it says he is bachelor, descendants inform me that for some unknown reason he abandoned his wife and 7 children in the mid 1930s and therefore he may well not have told the truth about his marital status. In fact in the 1939 register his wife is listed as widow?, so it seems like he just left the scene and “disappeared” and even his wife did not even know if he was alive or dead, him returning to Ireland and dying there would fit this scenario

That is the ‘Lusk’ family.
Here they are in 1911 - Margaret states she is married though.

Thank you Heywood, great work. This means the 2, 1901 Joseph’s can be eliminated as neither have a father Joseph. It does also put doubt on the death as it could be either of these 2 Joseph’s as well
