1881 Given birth place as Ardil Mary Ann Glason became Mary Ann Ferris
« on: Sunday 15 October 23 18:12 BST (UK) »
Hi Mary gives here bithplace as Ardil.
Her husband Alexander was in barracks in Porthsea & they married 1871 in Portsea Island.
1891 Mary gives her place of birth as Lymington.
Alexander was in the 77 Foot Regiment (Regimental Number   3688) & was a Chelsea Pensioner.
Sadly my wife's 2nd GGM was only 53 when she died in East Ham , Essex.

Have you traced her back on censuses before her marriage?

She should be on the 1871 under her maiden name as marriage was after the census.

Have you checked freebmd for her birth - see 1845.  GRO online gives mmn as Duhig. Check 1851 & 1861 to see what birthplace is given.  Freebmd marriage for parents 1843 - Robert & Bridget(t)

Hurst Castle is sort of within the parish of Milford - see this map here:

https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/HAM/Milford

Hordle is the adjacent parish on the western side and Lymington is the adjacent parish on the east and probably the nearest town with a sizeable population.

Hurst Castle is on that spit of land that juts out into the Solent.

I see her father was a coastguard.  He is listed on the Genuki Coastguard index page here:

77th(East Middlesex) Regiment of Foot amalgamated with 57th (West Middlesex) Regiment of Foot in the 1881 Childers Reforms to become the Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex) Regiment.
