McHarg in New South Wales, Australia
« on: Monday 16 October 23 09:37 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace Joseph McHarg who was married to Catherine Holmes in 1913 in Glasgow, Scotland and travelled to Australia some time afterwards. I would appreciate any information relating to this part of my family as I know nothing after 1913.
MARSHALL family in Ayrshire, Wigtownshire, Kirkcudbrightshire, Yorkshire, Canada
McHARG in Wigtownshire, Glasgow.
MYLES in Lanarkshire, Ireland, Canada.
HUGHES in Lanarkshire, Ireland, Canada, USA
SHIELDS in Lanarkshire, Ireland, Canada, USA

I'm assuming this is him on a passenger list for the Wilcannia departing 9 July 1913 from London to Australia. He is aged 32, a painter, from Scotland and headed for NSW, with Mrs McHARG, aged 32.

There is a Joseph McHARG in Sydney, a bus driver who is involved in an accident in 1938, however his wife dies in 1940 and her name is Sarah Thompson McHARG, so not your Joseph. Unless he had remarried? I'll do a bit more research.

There is a Joseph McHARG dies in NSW (Kurri Kurri) in 1953, parents Alexander and Sarah. Does this sound like your Joseph?

A Catherine McHARG dies in Kurri Kurri in 1969, parents John Robert and Mary Ann.

(The Joseph mentioned in the previous reply, married to a Sarah, died in 1948.)

NSW births, deaths and marriages can be searched here:
https://www.nsw.gov.au/family-and-relationships/family-history-search

There are privacy laws so that only births up to 100 years ago, marriages over 50 years and deaths over 30 years can be searched.

There is a birth registered in 1914 for a Catherine McHARG, daughter of Joseph and Catherine (registered in Glebe 15320/1914 ).

Catherine Mills McHARG married Sydney Harold JOHNSTON in 1936 (registered in Rockdale 17553/1936). This fits with a name on the death notice.

Modified to add:
There is a possible marriage that fits with the other name on the death notice "J L McHARG". Joseph Logan MCHARG married Kathleen Ellen ROWLING in 1942 (registered at Rockdale 4028/1942 ).

Joseph Logan McHARG died aged 91 on 29 Jan 2008 (according to the Ryerson Index, which lists death/funeral notices) "late of Singleton, formerly of Coal Point and Kurri Kurri   "

Thankyou so much. I wasn’t expecting such a speedy reply. Joseph was the son of Alexander and Sarah Logan.
I will check your links
Thankyou

There is a birth for Joseph L McHAIG in 1916, parents Joseph and Catherine (registered in Rockdale 17412/1916 ). I suspect this is meant to be McHARG.  :D

Joseph (a painter) and Catherine McHARG appear on the 1933, 1934, 1935 and 1937 electoral roll at 14 Kinsel Grove, Kingsgrove (Sydney).

In 1943 they are at 18 Cahill St, Beverly Hills (Sydney) with Joseph Logan (electrical fitter) and Kathleen Ellen. Still there in 1949 and 1954 (without the son and dau in law)
