I would like some clarification please on this entry; apologies image failure struggling to reduce from 3.MB only down to 506 on third attempt. Many thanks

When he enlisted it was for 3 years with the Colours (that is to say, the Regular Army) followed by 9 years in the Reserve. (3/9).
Therefore having completed his 3 years, on 27 April 1931 he was discharged to the Army Reserve (AR). With the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939 he would have been recalled to the Colours since he was still within his 9 years commitment in the Army Reserve.  His reserve commitment ended on 27 April 1940. However he would probably have had his service extended since he was only 30 years old in 1940 and thus liable to be conscripted.  This didn't happen, as he was in fact discharged as 'physically unfit for any form of Army service under the existing standards' (Para 383 (xvi) (b) of King's Regulations 1940).  This category suggests he may have been wounded or was suffering from some disease which meant he was unlikely to regain his fitness.
