From out of the blue I have recently been notified of a 1625 cm match. This is very close, but the owner has not responded to an email from me.Any suggestions please? I think my grandparents can be ruled out as they died in 1901,1903,1935 and 1953 respectively.

Redroger, does the match have a tree or anyway to identify their parents or locality

1625cm  is a very close match, cousin or half cousin, I think you need to check dates against your grandparents. Did the match identify on your maternal or paternal side?

Also have you checked for shared matches?

Roger

That s a very close relative.

Looking at painter,* these are the possible relationships

Add - it could be a multiple line match. I have a 3rd cousin who shows as much closer because his 2 x greats were (from memory) 2nd cousins. This is fairly common in small villages!

Note that Redroger started a Thread on this topic called A LINK IN GEDMATCH back in August which I responded to earlier today to try to avoid this duplication.

Thanks for that. I plead incipient senility. Had forgotten the other thread. I am still reeling at this and need a little time to get my head round it.

If  its from my mother's side then this is a very real possibility, the Ayres/ Cornwell/ Benstead and other families at Bottisham Lode nr Cambridge have intermarried for over three hundred years with at least one case of the son of an eldest child marrying the youngest sister of his father, so when I get my head round it this must be possible. Thanks for that Gadget.

If you scroll horizontally along the listing line it will show who they tested with.

In my case one of mine had tested with My Heritage and I found them there and also their family tree which did give some clues, it was not as close a relationship as yours but clues are clues.
