Have you tried searching for him in records? It is not clear.

And indeed I'm not going to give his name - bit of a sensitive subject for any living relatives. Yeah, I've found his marriage and death and lots of records of his wife, mother and children.
I might have a quick scoot around familysearch before leaving him behind.

Just try there and Ancestry and Find my Past to see if there is a record.
