Which would be right but ethnicity is very random and doesn't tell you much - but I was thinking more about the localities your matches ancestors came from.   If you look at your 4 - 6 cousin matches who have trees and see where their ancestors are from if some have germanic ancestors when that could prove the theory right.   You would afterwards have to work out the link between you and them.

Ah yeah that makes more sense, after I replied I looked at my matches it’s mostly Americans, Welsh and English.

There are a couple German sounding surnames but they didn’t have where they are from showing.

So they could be from the UK for all I know. When I wrote this post all I was going off was what people have told me

There were a couple with Germanic ethnicity in their DNA results

I have found a match from Berlin Germany

Don't know if it will help but it looks possibly Mary Gaze nee Shuker remarried in 1853. It may give details of her father, if marriage correct.

Marriages Jun Q 1853   (same page)
Gase    Mary        Dudley    6c   12
Powis    Benjamin        Dudley    6c   12

Also Charles Gaze b1868 is still alive in 1939 and can be found on Glamorgan Electrol at same address into 1940s, not checked all.

I didn't know that she had remarried, I know that Charles was still alive until the late 30s but I wouldn't know his date of death.

1871 Mary Powis is in household with Esther Jasper and family. So it does look like she remarried, Esther was her daughter in 1841.

There is a possibility he went to live with his daughter. She settled there after marriage.

I would contact Pontypridd FH Library to see if they have any ledger books etc, regarding Ponty market. If your family had stall/s there might be some record books. They are very helpful, if not could likely point you in right direction.

Lots of other resources relating to family history.
