I have found these two children on 1881 census
Frederick is 9 years old b 1872  Liverpool and Sarah is 7 years old b 1874 Everton
Living at Mill Lane Everton Lancaster Civil Parish Lathom
With Thomas Southern  42 and his wife Martha Southern 41
Registration District Ormskirk
They are classed as Nurse Child

Their parents are Henshall Stubbs and Maria Maghie they married in 1869 Liverpool
The couple must have parted before 1877 as Maria is living with John Grierson with a daughter b 1877 and goes on to have more children with him she is classed as his wife but I and more relatives cannot find a marriage .Was there divorces that far back ?? . help appreciated

In both the 1901 and 1911 Henshel is with a wife Elizabeth. I cannot find a marriage despite the fact that in 1911 they state that they have been married 17 years. My guess is that Henshel and Marie's marriage broke down and they both found other partners. I doubt that they divorced as divorce in those days was very expensive.

................the reason I have posted this is - all the records seem to be there - EXCEPT - the 1877 birth of which you say is John and Marias first born .
so
what is the name of John and Marias first born ?
how do you know the child was Johns and not Henshalls
if we find the name we may find a record of the baptism

Sarah is the child with Maria in 1881.

It is possible that the birth registration does not name a father, but just has the mother named as Maria STUBBS formerly MAGHIE.  You would need to see it to know for sure.

Thank you yes I’ve got this now . I looked at Free BMD for both girls Sarah Ellen . There was a Stubbs but no Grierson
Maria must have  taken here baby with her and given her the surname of Grierson

In 1871 census she is with The Grierson family aged 4 years and stated as Sarah E Grierson

1891 Maria is with John Pritchard, looks likely 3 children born to couple. Still together in 1911 in Everton Lancs.

Thank you something else to sort out I was friendly with a Pritchard from this family he gave me loads of information but haven’t heard from him for a long time I have photos of the girls in this family but no census thank again
