Cemetery
« on: Thursday 19 October 23 07:04 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Does anyone have info on Kinnader Cemetery, Montrose, Scotland. One of my ancestors Robert Inglis was buried there 1795. The directions given by Find a Grave just lead me to an open paddock.
Cheers,
David Adams

Hi,

You have mistakenly posted on "How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here)" board.

Just ask the moderator to move your post to the appropriate Scottish sub-Board by using the ‘Report to Moderator’ function.

Good Luck!  :)

Assuming you are looking for Kinnaber (rather than Kinneddar), the co-ordinates on FindAGrave are slightly out. They are 105 metres too far west and 76 metres too far north, and they do indeed land you in a field.

The burial ground is marked on the First Edition of the Ordnance Survey map https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16.2&lat=56.74516&lon=-2.45590&layers=257&b=1 - you may need to zoom in to see it, marked as 'Old Burial Gd' beside Houff of Kinnaber'.

If you slide the blue button at lower left towards the left, you can see from the satellite view that it's in a clump of trees.

Houff of Kinnaber, but not the graveyard, is on the larger scale modern maps - see attachment.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thanks for that info. I was thinking of Kennedar, Moray where other ancestors were buried.

Cheers,
David
