Latest Windows 10 update 19 Oct 2023
« on: Friday 20 October 23 09:26 BST (UK) »
Has anyone else had problems with the most recent update? Desktop PC can't get any further than 20 per cent. Left it for 9 hours yesterday, then in desperation switched off. Switching off could only be achieved by switching off at socket, the PC would not respond to any keyboard controls. This morning when switching on it tried to start update again. Could not roll back to previous settings as it said it was more than two weeks ago, but managed to pause this update, but only for a limited time.
If anyone has had similar problems and solved them, I would be very grateful to know what they did.

Updated three devices last week to 22H2 without issue.

Does your desktop have enough free disk space for the update process? Anything else running in the background on the PC at the time which could increase the time it takes for the update to take place?

No need to switch off at the wall if that is the last option - if the PC is not responding, holding down the power button for a few seconds will cause it to power down.

It’s a known issue for some systems. The only solution at the moment appears to be to roll back to the previous version.

Tried the roll back but it said that was not possible because it was more than two weeks since it was last used. We have just come back from holiday so hadn't used it for over two weeks. OH's laptop which we took away with us, did the major update with no problem while we were on holiday. And it's got less disc space available than the desktop PC

Microsoft are aware of the issue and will be releasing an update, which should then be activated once the update restarts.
