Edward Thomas Grant 1926-1959 Army Service Records
« on: Friday 20 October 23 18:46 BST (UK) »
Hi I wonder if someone could help I am trying to find service information for my late father Edward Thomas Grant who died in 1959 when I was a baby.

I filled in and sent a Request for Information held on the Personnel Records of Deceased Service Personnel to the Ministry of Defence but they returned the form and the £30 cheque claiming there wasn't enough information for them to start a search of their records, in fairness I was only able to provide his date of birth 22nd Feb 1926 as I don't know his Army regiment and there is no way of finding out as my Mum and nearly all his sibling are no longer with us.

I have investigated myself on Ancestry FindMyPast etc but I have only been able to find the attached that could conceivably be him as the dates fit but is there anyway I can confirm this, also do I assume that RA means Royal Artillery any help with the meaning of the other text on this form would be much appreciated.

I only have a few pictures of my Dad one of which shows him wearing an Australian type helmet/hat  which I have assumed puts him in the Far East during his Army service.

Any help would be much appreciated

Best Regards

Tony

Was he in the army when he married as the certificate may indicate which regiment, the same could apply to children’s birth certificates

It seems Unlikely that Soldier in the Royal Artillery that you have found that Card for is him.
It states he Enlisted 26 March 1942 but your Edward would have only just turned 16 in February 1942 and not allowed to Enlist till 1944 into the Army
After  Training it is possible he was then sent to India

He married Doris 15 March 1952 so presume no longer Army then.

So almost certainly not him that's a shame any suggestions as to finding the correct records you would have thought that a servicemans date of birth and address would be enough to locate him ?

No he wasn't

We know that wasn't him.

I would assume he most likely Enlisted the same Regt as his Elder Brother William George
which was the norm.
What Regt ie shown on his Marriage Certificate in June Quarter 1941in Maidstone Kent
when he Married Eileen Attwood ?
