If they were married the children born after 1913 wouldn't be indexed the way they are with just a mother's first name and both surnames.  I would hazard a guess that Alice is named as Alice FARISH 'also known as' or 'otherwise' PEISLEY.

Perhaps Thomas returned to Scotland, or he may have changed his name if he didn't want to be held financially responsible for whichever children were his.
