John HYMAS b Essex England circa 1787
« on: Saturday 21 October 23 19:21 BST (UK) »
It is likely, but not certain that John HYMAS who married Elizabeth SWANN in Eastwood Essex on  5th Sept 1815..He was convicted aged 50, and sentence to 7years for larceny as a servant at Essex assizes 23 May 1837.
The record of two of his sons baptisms in 16th July 1837 in Thundersley refers to father John late transported.
Details of o John HYMAS of unspecified age who was transported to NSW for 7 years arriving 7th Aug 1838 , appears to be a possible match. The ship had sailed 1st Apr 1838.so if this is him, he had remained in England after his conviction for just over a year.
Detail of the ships voyage on the ship Lord Lyndoch refer to 330 males, with 19 deaths during the journey, and a also revert an accident when 11 passengers were badly scolded, with 119 requiring hospital treatment in Sydney.
Are there possibly any other records from Australia that expand kn theses details, to know John's fate.
It is believed he had 4 children, his wife Elizabeth dieing in 1851, described as a pauper in the 1851 census.
Son Fredrick b1833 believed to have married Mahala Shepherd, other Children David b 1823, not identified after his bapt, similarly earlier children John and Elizabeth, still  under research.
These HYMAS's are thought be part of my extended family from earlier generations, so possible having a DNA link to descendants.

It would appear that James Nash arrived 1837

Just thought i would check James Nash out as some times when they are tried together they appear on the same convict ship but doesn't seem to be the case here.

Many  thanks for the help,  That was a surprise that he survived, I am unable to access the .au  site with our UK login.
Does it suggest he started a new life in NSW in 1844.

C of F meant he was free and could do whatever he wished, and go wherever he wished.

John HYMAS (50) convicted 23 May 1837 was on the Prison Hulk Justitia then sent to NSW 28 March 1838. The gaoler's report says "indifferent character" and something "bad". (UK Prison Hulk Register, on Ancestry)

James NASH is also on  the Jusitia, and is noted as sent to NSW 30 June 1837. His report is "convicted before, bad in every respect".
