Hello.  Yes that is Jame's death.  Died 1934.  I can't find a marriage for James Snr and Ellen although it is stated in his Will that he left his daughters Maria and Kate Browne his personal possessions/wealth.  Really bizarre as I wasn't aware of these two ladies and nothing left to James Jnr.
Have you seen James' Will or are you just going by the details in the Will Book?

This does not say that he left Maria & Kate Brown his possessions or even that these two women are his daughters. What it does say is they they applied to administer James' estate and permission was granted. There was a Will but for some reason if was not valid and in that case there is a set legal procedure about dividing up the estate which is unlikely to have disinherited his son James.

Have you investigated this? Could this be Maria & Kate?

Maria Brown, spinster, died 30 Jan.1914 & administration given to Catherine Browne, spinster.

Death registration gives Maria's age as 58 (born c1856).

Hiya, thank you so much for this find, am going to investigate.  Unfortunately when I click on the links you have provided it won't let me open them.  Am just going to look at my Tree to see where I got the information from regarding James Snr's Will.   Am using my tablet at the moment but will go now and fire up my Computer and revert back to you.

Kindest regards,

Kathryn

Hello again.  The link I have provided doesn't seem to highlight but if you can manage to get into it this is the information that I have in my Tree.

http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/search/cwa/details.jsp?id=1639273786

Web: Ireland, Calendar of Wills and Administrations, 1858-1920

It looks like this is the same as the link you provided me for James Snr (having now reverted to my Computer I am able to open the links that you provided).  My reading of it is that Maria and Kate aforesaid Spinsters the daughters and only Legatees or am I misreading or misunderstanding the text?

Thank you once again for all of this, I will take time and look into the other links you have provided.  Another mystery about the two ladies.

Kindest regards,

Kathryn

Well done, thank goodness for people like yourself and others who have the knowledge of where to search.  Thank you so much.   Am just puzzling over Catherine.   Somehow I worked out that she was born c1852 taken from her death cert giving her age as 81 when she died in 1933 but in the 1911 Census her age is given as 48 making her born c1863.

Thank you so much again for your help it is much appreciated.

Kindest regards,

Kathryn

Got interrupted earlier when searching so missed bit about Maria and Catherine being James' daughters.

Evening Echo [Cork], 14 Jan.1914: BROWNE- On January 13th, at 58, Grand Parade, after a lingering illness, Maria, eldest daughter of the late James Brown; deeply and deservedly regretted by her sorrowing sister, relatives, and friends.

Thank you so much for this further information.   I wonder what happened to James Jnr after he was born up until he got married.  James Snr may have been married and Maria and Kate were the outcome and that James Snr had an affair with Ellen Swiney and as we know James Jnr was the outcome of that relationship.   It's possible that Maria and Kate didn't know of James and that James wasn't aware of Maria and Kate.  I do love a mystery and even more so when it unravels.  Am off to bed now as I have to be up at 5.30.  Will check tomorrow to see if there are any further messages.

Thank you again for your help and time spent on my query.

Kindest regards,

Kathryn

Just a few random thoughts that I wish we knew the answers too.

It is interesting that he seems to have retained the surname Brown/e.

When James married, his residence was Crossmahon and his witness was Jeremiah Murphy.

Griffiths Valuation https://www.rootschat.com/links/01sqo/ shows an Ellen Sweeny and a Jeremiah Murphy in Crossmahon.
