Missing! John Herbert Knowles & Ann Elizabeth Parker + family
« on: Sunday 22 October 23 14:02 BST (UK) »
John and Ann married on 17 April 1797 at St Matthew, Bethnal Green.

A daughter Ann Elizabeth was baptised on 1 February 1800 also at St Matthew.

and that is all I know about them!  Neither the marriage or the baptism give any clues as to John's occupation.

There is a death of Ann Elizabeth Knowles in DQ 1841 in London but that was a 1 year old baby, but if anyone can find where they landed up or any more children I would be very grateful.

Thank you  :)

A possible sighting from London Lives: John Knowles, a watchman, gave evidence at the Old Bailey, 17 September 1817, regarding banknotes stolen at Shoreditch:

Hi
There is a poor law Document for John's father James.
James Knowles c 40 years of age printer of St Martins in the Fields has lived four years at Hunt Court at a rent of £35 per annum.Wife Mary married c 19years ago at St Andrew  Holborn.
Children Mary 18 ,James 15,Catherine 13 and John 9 years.
Taken 15 April 1784.
Both James and John Herbert have lovely handwriting.

(The marriage 28.4.1765 to Mary Williams  St Andrew Holborn)
There is a death 30 Dec 1792 age 53 in that Workhouse/poor law union .Entered 13 Dec 1792.

Ann Elizabeth  Parker is in St Giles Cripplegate  bapt 28th Jan born 31 Dec d  of Charles picture frame maker and his wife Mary
Brother Thomas 21.3.1773 says carver and Charlotte sister 1.6.1777 frame maker

Charles bapt 20 June 1747 St Giles Cripplegate s of Thomas and Sarah Parker printer looks likely,so being in the trade the Parkers and Knowles could have known each other well.

Thank you everyone!

That poor law document looks really interesting  :) Gives me some leads to go on for John Herbert's siblings. I've got a couple more kids than on the list there so I guess I might be looking for deaths. Where is it online?

Hi
The actual records including the Poor law stuff is on Ancestry .
FindMyPast has an index but no details.
James and Mary Knowles are at St Martins the Fields under Westminster parish records and the Parkers under London parish records.

James 3 Sep 1768 born 24 August
Catherine Knowles 1 April birth bapt 22 April 1770
Halbert bapt 1 Jan 1772 born Dec 12 looks like buried as Herbert 12 Dec 1772 a child.
John Herbert bapt 9 April 1775 born 14 March
and at St Sepulcre Holborn
Mary 19 Oct 1766 born 15 Sept

I'm guessing Holborn St Seplucre was were the maternal grandparents lived.

Hope that helps

Thank you!  I think I've found their daughter Catherine in those Westminster records too. She married a Smith but it certainly looks like her.  I might see if the people who I think are James Knowles' parents (Francis Knowles and Elizabeth Dalrymple) are in there too just in case.
